For over five agonizing months, from June to November 2025, a wave of fear and uncertainty swept through our city. The relentless string of 22 arsons, break and enter, and damage-related offences took a heavy toll on our community, striking at the very institutions we rely on and the places we love. This was more than just property damage; it was an assault on our sense of security and local stability.
Today, we are announcing a massive step forward and a huge victory for Winnipeg. Following a tireless and lengthy investigation, the Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit has arrested a suspect, bringing this terrifying chapter to a close!
The widespread nature of these attacks is staggering. The targeted locations included vital political offices, such as Nahanni Fontaine’s constituency office (1763 Main Street) and Bernadette Smith’s constituency office (804 Selkirk Avenue), as well as essential public and private spaces like the Winnipeg School Division administration building (1577 Wall Street) and a Provincial Treatment Centre (146 Magnus Avenue).
The commercial core was hit hard, with damage reported at numerous beloved establishments, including Commonwealth Kitchen and Bar (456 Main Street), Johnny G’s (100-177 McDermont Avenue), Exchange Event Centre (111 Princess Street), Palomino Club (436 Main Street), Boujee Restaurant (191 Main Street), La Roca (155 Smith Street), and Tipsy Cow (285 Portage Avenue).

- Break Enter and Commit Arson – Place (x 2)

This arrest is a powerful reminder of what our community can achieve when we stand together and support the diligent work of our police service. Our thanks go out to every officer involved and every citizen who remained vigilant.
