Gun Violence On The Rise

As members of the Sargent business community, we are deeply concerned by the recent escalation of gun violence in our neighborhood. Business owners, staff, and residents are feeling the impact of these incidents, and we believe it is time to address this situation with the urgency it deserves.

We operate in this city because we care about the people here and the vibrancy of our streets. However, we cannot ignore the toll that repeated incidents of violence, as reported by the Winnipeg Police Service, are taking on the safety and well-being of our community.

We are sharing these recent reports from the Winnipeg Police Service to ensure our members and neighbors are informed:

Pizza delivery worker robbed at gunpoint – Three youths arrested:

On March 5, 2026, just before 7:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to an apartment complex in the 500 block of Victor Street for the report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, Central District General Patrol officers located an uninjured 26-year-old male victim.

Through investigation, officers determined that the victim had attended to the above location to deliver a pizza when he was met outside by a female suspect who told him to wait and left. He was then approached by two male suspects that brandished a handgun and demanded his pizza bag prior to fleeing the area.

Further investigation ensued and just before 10:00 p.m., officers located and arrested one of the male suspects on the sidewalk in the 400 block of Broadway.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation.

Just after 11:00 p.m., with the assistance the Tactical Support Team (TST) and multiple General Patrol units, the outstanding male and female suspects were located and arrested at a residence in the 500 block of Victor Street. Police located and seized the handgun that was later determined to be a CO2 propelled gun.

Two 16-year-old male youths, and a 16-year-old female youth are facing a charge of Armed Robbery using a Firearm. They were all released of Undertakings.

“Traffic stop leads to the seizure of a gun. Two males in custody:

On March 5, 2026, just before 2:00 p.m., officers from the Traffic Division were proactively policing in the West End neighbourhood when they noticed a taxicab travelling westbound on Logan Avenue. A male passenger in the rear of the taxicab was observed to be leaning outside of the window, not wearing their seatbelt, and yelling at a pedestrian at a bus stop.

A traffic stop resulted in officers locating a .22 calibre handgun on one man and a sawed-off shot gun on the other man. One of the men also produced false identification. Both men were arrested without incident, and both firearms were seized by police.

Andrew Shayne GUINTO, (36), has been charged with the following:

• Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence

• Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

• Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

• Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order

• Possession of an Identity Document

• Warrant – Apprehension and Suspension of Parole/Statutory Release

• Warrant – Unlawfully at Large

Charles Roger KNOTT, (32), has been charged with the following:

• Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

• Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

• Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order

• Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm

• Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking

Both men were detained in custody.”

“Man arrested in connection with three armed robberies involving taxi drivers: C26-41706

Between February 17 and March 1, 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to three armed robberies involving taxi drivers in the downtown area.

• On February 17, 2026, a taxi driver was robbed by a male suspect armed with a firearm near the intersection of Agnes Street and Sargent Avenue (no injuries reported)

• On February 21, 2026, a taxi driver was robbed of personal property and their taxi cab stolen by a male suspect armed with a firearm near the intersection of Agnes Street and Sargent Avenue (no injuries reported)

• On March 1, 2026, a taxi driver was robbed by a male suspect armed with a firearm in the 500 block of Sargent Avenue (no injuries reported)

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigations and identified a suspect believed to be involved in all three robberies.

Michael Darren HARRIS (37) has been charged with Robbery x 3, Possession of a Weapon x 3, and Use of Imitation Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence x 3. He was detained in custody.
