Retail theft hurts everyone, it drives up prices for honest shoppers and puts local workers in stressful situations. Glad to see some accountability here, especially for the businesses on Mountain, Main, Keewatin, and Marion. Huge thanks to the officers and store staff who reported and provided video evidence to help catch this guy.

Property Crime Unit arrests prolific thief following string of commercial retail theft incidents: E26-19703
The Winnipeg Police Service’s Property Crime Unit continues investigating retail thefts to commercial businesses within Winnipeg. A string of retail thefts committed in May and June of 2026 were reported tom police who initiated an investigation.
The incidents included the following:
• May 30: Five suspects stole cases of coffee tins valued at $1,340 from a grocery store in the 8000 block of Dufferin Avenue
• June 7: Five suspects stole food products valued at $300 from a grocery store in the 800 block of Keewatin Street
• June 12: A suspect stole meat product valued at $240 from a grocery store in the 500 block of Mountain Avenue
• June 14: A suspect stole meat product valued at $80 from a grocery store in the 500 block of Mountain Avenue
• June 15: A suspect stole coffee product valued at $310 from a grocery store in the 1600 block of Main Street
• June 23: A suspect stole meat product valued at $320 from a grocery store in the 1600 block of Main Street
• June 29: A suspect stole meat product valued at $200 from a grocery store in the 200 block of Marion Street
Most of these incidents were captured on store video surveillance and reported to police online. The Property Crime Unit assumed the investigation, identified and linked 37-year-old Nicholas Paul OHRYN as a suspect in the above-mentioned incidents. During their investigation, investigators learned that OHRYN was also named in four Warrants for arrest in relations to twenty additional retail theft incidents.
On July 20, OHRYN was apprehended by investigators in the 400 block of Charles Street without incident.
OHRYN is charged with a total of 23 counts of Theft Under $5,000, 2 counts of Robbery, and Fail to Comply with conditions of Undertaking.
OHRYN was detained in custody.
The Property Crime Unit continues to investigate.
