Bear Clan Patrol at the Small Business & Retail Crime Prevention Conference

Monday, May 5th | West End Cultural Centre – 586 Ellice Ave, Winnipeg

The Sargent Business Community (SBC) is proud to feature Bear Clan Patrol at our upcoming Small Business & Retail Crime Prevention Conference – a full-day event designed to support local business owners in building safer, more secure workplaces.

About Bear Clan Patrol:

Bear Clan Patrol is a volunteer-driven, Indigenous-led community safety group that has become a vital presence in Winnipeg and other Canadian cities. The organization was founded on the principles of community, empathy, and responsibility, and works to promote peace and safety through nonviolent, culturally grounded approaches.

With more than 2,000 volunteers and patrols operating in multiple neighborhoods, Bear Clan provides a visible, supportive presence on the streets—helping to de-escalate conflict, offer assistance to vulnerable individuals, and create stronger connections between residents and businesses.

Panel Presentation: Safety Strategies: Managing Impaired Individuals, Collaborating with Community Resources, and Addressing Drug-Related Concerns

This session covers how to identify individuals under the influence of narcotics or alcohol and implement strategies for avoiding conflict safely and respectfully. It will emphasize collaboration with local organizations like Bear Clan Patrol and Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP), highlighting their locations, services, and ways businesses can work together with these groups.

Additionally, the panel will address critical harm reduction measures, including the importance of providing access to needle and sharp item disposal bins and having Narcan (naloxone) available in businesses. Guidance will be offered on how and when to administer Narcan during an overdose situation, equipping attendees with essential tools to respond effectively and compassionately.

Speakers: Bear Clan Patrol and Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP)
