Monday, May 5th | West End Cultural Centre – 586 Ellice Ave, Winnipeg
The Sargent Business Community (SBC) is pleased to welcome the Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP) as a featured participant at our upcoming Small Business & Retail Crime Prevention Conference – a full-day event dedicated to helping local businesses create safer, more secure environments for staff, customers, and the wider community.
About COPP:
The Citizens on Patrol Program is a volunteer-based initiative that works in partnership with law enforcement agencies to deter crime and increase public safety. With patrol groups active throughout Manitoba, COPP plays a vital role in monitoring neighborhoods, reporting suspicious activities, and promoting awareness among residents and business owners.
Through consistent visibility and a strong commitment to community engagement, COPP volunteers help reduce crime, support local safety efforts, and foster a greater sense of connection between citizens and policing agencies.
Panel Presentation: Safety Strategies: Managing Impaired Individuals, Collaborating with Community Resources, and Addressing Drug-Related Concerns
This panel will provide essential guidance on recognizing and responding to individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol, with a focus on non-confrontational strategies that prioritize safety and de-escalation. COPP representatives will share their experience and best practices for observing and reporting while maintaining personal safety.
The discussion will also explore how businesses can partner with community safety organizations such as COPP and Bear Clan Patrol to enhance neighborhood safety. Attendees will learn about COPP’s role, their patrol areas, and how to get involved.
Additional topics include the growing need for harm reduction tools in business settings—such as needle disposal containers and Narcan (naloxone). The panel will cover why these resources matter, how to obtain them, and how to administer Narcan in overdose situations.
Speakers: Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP) and Bear Clan Patrol
