A recent press release from the Winnipeg Police Service detailing an aggravated assault on a preschool-aged child in northeast Winnipeg (the 300 block of Thames Avenue) serves as a devastating reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by children in our city.
While this incident occurred outside our immediate commercial district, we know that family violence, extreme stress, and child abuse are systemic issues that affect every corner of Winnipeg, including our own West End families, customers, and staff.
As community advocates, we believe safety must extend past our storefronts and into our homes. If you are struggling, or if you suspect a child in your neighborhood is experiencing abuse or neglect, please do not stay silent. There is help available.
